Taunus
The Taunus is a range of wooded uplands in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, north of Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, bounded by the Rhine, Main and Lahn. The Roman frontier of the Limes Germanicus ran along its ridge, with forts such as the Saalburg, and in the Middle Ages its lands were held by the counts of Nassau, Katzenelnbogen and others. Its highest point is the Großer Feldberg (879 m).
