Bishopric of Worms

Also known as Prince-Bishopric of Worms, Diocese of Worms

The Bishopric of Worms was a diocese on the middle Rhine, centred on the cathedral city of Worms, whose bishops also ruled a small territory as princes of the Holy Roman Empire. In the High Middle Ages it held lands and rights that local lords such as the counts of Katzenelnbogen and Nassau administered or contested. Its territory was secularised in 1803.
