Bishopric of Ösel–Wiek
The Bishopric of Ösel–Wiek was a prince-bishopric of medieval Livonia, covering the islands of Saaremaa (Ösel) and Hiiumaa and the Läänemaa (Wiek) region of western Estonia. Founded in 1228 after the crusader conquest and ruled from Haapsalu and later Kuressaare, it was a member of the Livonian Confederation. In 1559 the last bishop sold it to Denmark, which installed Duke Magnus of Holstein.
