Ripon
Ripon is a cathedral city in North Yorkshire, England. A monastery founded there around 660 was given to Wilfrid, who built a stone church whose seventh-century crypt survives beneath the present cathedral. Ripon was one of the centres of the Northumbrian Renaissance; it was burned by the English king Eadred in 948, and its minster became a cathedral in 1836.
