Rudolf III of Burgundy

c. 970–1032 · 11th century · Also known as Rudolph III of Burgundy

Rudolf III was the last king of the Kingdom of Burgundy, also called Arles, reigning from 993 to 1032. Weak against his nobles, he relied on bishops, granting the bishop of Lausanne the county of Vaud in 1011. Childless, he named Emperor Henry II and then Conrad II as heirs, and on his death Burgundy passed to the Holy Roman Empire.
