Saint Peter Port
Saint Peter Port is the capital and main harbour of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. A trading port since the Middle Ages, it was guarded by Castle Cornet on an islet in its harbour, and it prospered in the 18th century from privateering and the entrepôt trade in wine and spirits. Victor Hugo lived in exile at Hauteville House in the town, where he completed Les Misérables.
