The Sarayu is a river of northern India, the name given in Hindu tradition to the stretch of the Ghaghara that flows past Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. It is mentioned in the Rigveda and in the Ramayana, which places Rama's city on its banks, and pilgrims bathe in it at Ayodhya.
