1920– · 20th century

Schule Schloss Salem is a boarding school in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, founded in 1920 by Prince Maximilian of Baden and the educator Kurt Hahn in the former imperial abbey of Salem. Its teaching aimed to build character and civic responsibility through community service, outdoor challenge and pupil self-government. Hahn carried its ideas to Gordonstoun in Scotland after fleeing the Nazis, and it remains one of Germany's best-known boarding schools.
