Segontium

Segontium is a Roman auxiliary fort on the edge of Caernarfon in north-west Wales, founded around 77 CE after Agricola's conquest of the Ordovices. It controlled the Menai Strait and access to Anglesey and was garrisoned until the late 4th century, longer than most Roman forts in Wales. Welsh tradition linked it with the usurper Magnus Maximus.
