Sicard was the Lombard prince of Benevento from 832 to 839. He waged war on the Duchy of Naples, sacked Amalfi in 838 and carried many of its people off to Salerno, and he brought the relics of Saint Bartholomew from Lipari to Benevento. His murder in 839 was followed by a civil war that led to the division of the principality, with Salerno breaking away.
