Sicca Veneria
Sicca Veneria was an ancient town in north-western Tunisia, on the site of modern El Kef, named after its sanctuary of a goddess identified with Venus. Under Carthage it was where mercenaries gathered before the Mercenary War of 241 BCE, and it later belonged to the Numidian kingdom. It became a Roman colony under Augustus and an important town of the province of Africa.
