Siege of Bursa

1326 · 14th century · Part of the Byzantine–Ottoman wars

The Siege of Bursa was the long Ottoman blockade of the Byzantine city of Bursa in north-western Anatolia, which surrendered in 1326 to Orhan, son of Osman I. Bursa became the first major Ottoman capital. Accounts of the Ottoman Empire treat its capture as a key step in the foundation of the Ottoman state.
