Sorrento

Also known as Surrentum

Sorrento is a town on the Sorrento Peninsula in Campania, southern Italy, overlooking the Bay of Naples. Known in antiquity as Surrentum, it was a self-governing duchy under Byzantine and Neapolitan influence in the early Middle Ages before falling to the Normans in the 12th century. It was the birthplace of the poet Torquato Tasso and is now a major tourist resort.
