Stirlingshire
Stirlingshire is a historic county in central Scotland, centred on Stirling at the head of the Forth estuary. Its control of the lowest crossing of the Forth gave it great strategic importance, and the battles of Stirling Bridge (1297) and Bannockburn (1314) were fought there. In Roman times the Antonine Wall crossed its southern part.
