Swabian War

1499 · 15th century · Also known as Swiss War

The Swabian War was fought in 1499 between the Old Swiss Confederacy and its allies and the Habsburg emperor Maximilian I with the Swabian League. The Swiss won a series of battles, including Calven and Dornach. The Peace of Basel in September 1499 left the confederation effectively free of imperial courts and taxes, a step towards its formal independence in 1648.
