Synod of Whitby
The Synod of Whitby was a church council held in 664 at the abbey of Whitby, presided over by King Oswiu of Northumbria. Wilfrid argued for Roman practice and Bishop Colmán for the Irish tradition of Iona in calculating the date of Easter; Oswiu chose Rome. Colmán withdrew to Iona, and the English church moved closer to Rome.
