Székelys
The Székelys, or Szeklers, are a Hungarian-speaking people living mainly in south-eastern Transylvania, in present-day Romania. In the medieval Kingdom of Hungary they served as frontier guards and light cavalry and held collective liberties as one of the three privileged 'nations' of Transylvania, alongside the nobility and the Saxons. Their origins are debated.
