The Great Game
The Great Game was the nineteenth-century rivalry between the British and Russian Empires for influence in Central Asia, Afghanistan and Persia. Russian expansion towards Afghanistan brought the two empires close, and the Sikh Empire served as a buffer between British India and the Afghan frontier. It was eased by the Anglo-Russian Convention of 1907.
