Tobol River
The Tobol is a river of Kazakhstan and western Siberia, about 1,590 kilometres long, which rises in the southern Ural region and flows north to join the Irtysh at Tobolsk. Its basin lay within the appanage of Shiban in the Golden Horde and later within the Khanate of Sibir. Russian expansion into Siberia followed its valley from the late 16th century.
