Toghon Taishi
Toghon Taishi was a leader of the Oirats of western Mongolia in the early 15th century. Succeeding his father Bakhamu, he united the Oirat groups, defeated the eastern Mongols and in the 1430s became master of the steppe, ruling through a Chinggisid puppet khan, Toghtoa Bukha, since he could not take the title himself. His son Esen built on his power and captured the Ming emperor at Tumu in 1449.
