Treaty of Constantinople (1700)

1700 · 18th century · Part of the Russo-Turkish War (1686–1700)

The Treaty of Constantinople of July 1700 ended the war of 1686–1700 between Russia and the Ottoman Empire. Russia kept Azov, taken by Peter the Great in 1696, and Muscovy was released from paying the annual 'gifts' to the Crimean khans. The thirty-year truce freed Peter to begin the Great Northern War against Sweden.
