Trenčín
Trenčín is a city in western Slovakia on the Váh river, overlooked by one of the largest castles in the country. Known in Hungarian as Trencsén, it was the stronghold of the magnate Matthew Csák, who ruled much of north-western Hungary from it in the early 14th century. A Roman inscription of 179 CE on the castle rock, recording a legion's winter camp at Laugaricio, is the northernmost Roman monument in Central Europe.
