Tumbuka people

The Tumbuka are a Bantu-speaking people of northern Malawi and neighbouring parts of Zambia and Tanzania. Living in small farming communities, they came under the loose authority of the Chikulamayembe dynasty in the late 18th century and in the mid-19th century were conquered by the Ngoni under Mbelwa. Their language, Chitumbuka, is widely spoken across northern Malawi.
