Institution
University of Nantes
The University of Nantes was founded in 1460 by Duke Francis II of Brittany with a bull of Pope Pius II, giving the duchy its own university. It taught theology, law, medicine and the arts until the French Revolution closed it in 1793, though its law faculty had moved to Rennes in 1735. The present university was refounded in 1962.
