Person
Venkatapati Raya
Venkatapati Raya, or Venkata II, was emperor of Vijayanagara of the Aravidu dynasty from 1586 to 1614. Ruling from Penukonda and later Chandragiri, he restored a measure of royal authority, repelled attacks by Golconda and kept the southern nayakas in nominal obedience. His death without a direct heir led to a succession war that further weakened the empire.
