Aravidu dynasty

c. 1570–1646 · 16th century

The Aravidu dynasty was the fourth and last ruling house of the Vijayanagara Empire. Founded by Tirumala Deva Raya, brother of the regent Aliya Rama Raya who fell at Talikota in 1565, it ruled from Penukonda and later Chandragiri and Vellore while the Nayaka governors of Madurai, Thanjavur and Gingee became independent. Its last king, Sriranga III, lost his lands by 1646.
