Verviers

Verviers is a city in the province of Liège in eastern Belgium, on the Vesdre. Using the soft water of the river, it became a leading centre of wool-cloth making from the 17th century and, around 1800, one of the first places on the European continent to mechanise textile production. Its woollen industry declined in the 20th century.
