Verulamium
Verulamium was a Roman town in Britain beside modern St Albans, grown from the Iron Age settlement of Verlamion, a centre of the Catuvellauni. It became a self-governing municipium, was sacked by Boudica's rebels in 60 or 61, and was rebuilt with a forum and theatre. Saint Alban, Britain's first recorded Christian martyr, was executed there.
