Person
Victor Turner
Victor Turner was a British cultural anthropologist who studied the Ndembu people of north-western Zambia in the 1950s. His books on Ndembu ritual, including The Forest of Symbols (1967) and The Ritual Process (1969), developed the influential ideas of liminality and communitas. He later taught at Cornell, Chicago and the University of Virginia, and his work shaped the study of ritual, symbolism and performance.
