Vladimir Mayakovsky

1893–1930 · 20th century

Vladimir Mayakovsky was a Russian poet, playwright and artist and a leading figure of Russian Futurism. He welcomed the 1917 revolution and put his bold, declamatory verse and his posters at its service, in works such as the poem 150,000,000 and the play The Bedbug. Increasingly at odds with Soviet cultural officials, he shot himself in 1930.
