Waal
The Waal is the main distributary of the Rhine in the Netherlands, carrying most of its water westwards from the German border past Nijmegen towards Rotterdam and the North Sea. It is one of the busiest inland waterways in Europe. In Roman times it formed part of the Rhine frontier, with the Batavi living on the land to its north.
