West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire is a metropolitan county of northern England, created in 1974 and including Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Halifax. It grew in the 18th and 19th centuries as the centre of the English wool textile industry. In the early Middle Ages much of it lay within the British kingdom of Elmet.
