Witigis
Witigis was king of the Ostrogoths in Italy from 536 to 540. Raised to the throne after King Theodahad failed against the Byzantine invasion, he ceded Provence and the Ostrogothic protectorate over the Alemanni to the Franks to win their support. He besieged Rome in vain in 537–538, and in 540 surrendered Ravenna to Belisarius and was taken to Constantinople, where he died.
