Yaqui

The Yaqui are an Indigenous people of the Yaqui river valley in Sonora, north-western Mexico, with communities also in Arizona. For centuries they resisted Spanish and then Mexican control of their lands. Under Porfirio Díaz they were fought in long campaigns, and thousands were deported to work on plantations in Yucatán.
