Yenisei River
The Yenisei is one of the great rivers of Siberia, flowing north from the mountains of Tuva and Mongolia through central Russia to the Kara Sea of the Arctic Ocean. Its upper valley, in the Minusinsk Basin and Tuva, was the homeland of the Yenisei Kyrgyz, who left Old Turkic runic inscriptions along its banks. Russian explorers reached it in the early 17th century.
