Yeshe-Ö

late 10th century · 10th century · Also known as Lha Lama Yeshe-Ö

Yeshe-Ö was a king of Guge in western Tibet in the late 10th century who became a monk and devoted his reign to restoring Buddhism. He founded Tholing Monastery in 996 and sent young Tibetans, including Rinchen Zangpo, to study in Kashmir. Tradition holds that he died a captive of the Qarluqs, and his successors continued his policy by inviting the Indian teacher Atisha.
