Zayyanid dynasty

Also known as Zayyanid, Zayyanids

The Zayyanid dynasty was a Berber dynasty that ruled the central Maghreb from Tlemcen, in present-day Algeria, from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century. Of Zanata origin, it emerged from the fragmentation of the Almohad Caliphate. The Zayyanid seizure of Tlemcen around 1236 carved the central Maghreb out of the Almohad domain.
