Zheng He

Zheng He was a Chinese admiral and court eunuch who led seven great maritime expeditions for the Ming Empire between 1405 and 1433. His fleets of large treasure ships sailed through Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean as far as Arabia and East Africa, establishing tributary relations and projecting imperial prestige. Accounts of the Ming Empire treat the voyages as a high point of Ming maritime power, though they were later discontinued.
