1990 People's Movement
The 1990 People's Movement, or Jana Andolan, was a campaign of mass protests and strikes in Nepal from February to April 1990, led by the banned Nepali Congress and an alliance of leftist parties. It forced King Birendra to lift the ban on political parties and end the partyless Panchayat system. A new constitution in November 1990 made Nepal a constitutional monarchy with a multiparty parliament.
