Ajax the Great

Also known as Telamonian Ajax

Ajax the Great is a hero of Greek mythology, son of Telamon king of Salamis, who fights in the Trojan War in Homer's Iliad as the mightiest Greek warrior after Achilles. After losing the contest for Achilles' armour to Odysseus he took his own life, a story told in Sophocles' tragedy Ajax. His half-brother Teucer was said to have founded Salamis in Cyprus.
