Amorbach

Amorbach is a small town in the Odenwald in Lower Franconia, Bavaria. It grew around a Benedictine abbey founded in the 8th century, which later belonged to the archbishops of Mainz. In 1803 the secularised abbey and its lands were given to the princes of Leiningen as compensation for their losses west of the Rhine, and the former abbey remains the family's residence; its baroque church is famous for its large organ.
