Antium
Antium was an ancient town on the coast of Latium, at modern Anzio south of Rome. A Volscian port whose ships raided the coast, it resisted Rome until 338 BCE, when its fleet was taken and the bronze prows (rostra) of its ships were set up on the speakers' platform in the Roman Forum. Under the empire it was a favoured resort and the birthplace of Caligula and Nero.
