Arsacid dynasty
The Arsacid dynasty was the ruling family of the Parthian Empire, founded by Arsaces I in the third century BCE. It ruled Iran and Mesopotamia through a relatively decentralised system relying on powerful noble families and vassal kings. It was overthrown by Ardashir I in 224 CE, giving way to the Sasanian Empire, although branches continued to rule Armenia.
