At-Turaif

Also known as al-Turaif, Turaif District

At-Turaif is the historic citadel district of Diriyah, near Riyadh, which served as the seat of the first Saudi state in the 18th and early 19th centuries. Its mud-brick palaces, mosques and houses are a leading example of the Najdi architectural style. Ruined after the Ottoman-Egyptian siege of 1818, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010 and has since been extensively restored.
