Azd
The Azd were a major group of Arab tribes originating in South Arabia. After migrations that tradition links with the collapse of the Marib dam, branches settled across Arabia: the Ghassanids in Syria, the Aws and Khazraj in Medina, and others in Oman, where the Azd became dominant. In the early Islamic period Azd tribesmen were prominent in Basra and Khurasan.
