Battle of Elchingen

1805 · 19th century · Part of the War of the Third Coalition

The Battle of Elchingen was fought on 14 October 1805 near Ulm in Swabia during the Ulm campaign of the War of the Third Coalition. French troops under Marshal Michel Ney forced the crossing of the Danube and stormed the heights of Elchingen, defeating an Austrian corps under Johann Sigismund Riesch. The victory helped encircle General Mack's army at Ulm, and Ney was later made Duke of Elchingen.
