Battle of Koppam

1054 · 11th century · Part of the Chola–Chalukya wars

The Battle of Koppam was fought in 1054 between the Chola king Rajadhiraja I and the Western Chalukya king Someshvara I, probably near the Krishna or Tungabhadra river. Rajadhiraja was killed riding his war elephant, but his younger brother Rajendra II took command and was crowned on the field, and both dynasties later claimed victory. It was one of the hardest-fought battles of the long Chola–Chalukya wars.
