Bayburt

Bayburt is a city in north-eastern Turkey, capital of Bayburt province, on the Çoruh river. It lay on the route between Trebizond and Erzurum, and its large medieval castle was rebuilt under the Seljuks of Rum in the 13th century. In the 12th century it belonged to the Saltukids of Erzurum, and it passed to the Ottomans in the early 16th century.
