Bengal Army
The Bengal Army was the army of the Bengal Presidency of the East India Company and later of the British Crown, the largest of the three presidency armies of India. Its high-caste sepoys from Awadh and Bihar formed the core of the rebellion of 1857, which began at Meerut. After the rising it was rebuilt with recruits from other groups, and in 1895 it was merged into the unified Indian Army.
