Meerut

Meerut is a city in western Uttar Pradesh, India, about 70 kilometres north-east of Delhi. On 10 May 1857 Indian sepoys of the Bengal Army mutinied in its cantonment after the punishment of soldiers who had refused the new greased cartridges, killed British officers and marched to Delhi, beginning the Indian Rebellion. Today it is a large commercial and industrial centre.
